About Cross-Border Ecommerce Guide
Who we are
Cross-Border Ecommerce Guide is an independent editorial team that explains the operational side of selling internationally: shipping, customs, VAT, and localization. We are not a logistics provider, a tax advisory firm, or a software vendor. We are writers and researchers who spend our time reading regulations, interviewing practitioners, and testing the tools and services that cross-border sellers rely on.
Why we exist
Most cross-border advice is either too generic to act on or buried in vendor documentation. Sellers end up stitching together forum posts, outdated blog articles, and sales calls to understand basic questions: which Incoterms apply to a given shipment, when VAT registration is triggered, how to calculate landed cost without guessing. We started this publication because we kept seeing the same expensive mistakes repeated, and we thought the information could be organized better.
What we do
We publish guides, checklists, and comparisons that focus on the mechanics of cross-border selling. Our work covers:
- Shipping: carrier selection, customs documentation, Incoterms, and returns logistics.
- Customs: HS classification, duty calculation, and clearance procedures.
- VAT and tax: registration thresholds, filing obligations, and the EU's One-Stop Shop (OSS) and Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS).
- Localization: currency, payment methods, sizing, and language considerations for key markets.
We do not sell services. When we recommend a tool or provider, we disclose any relationship and explain our testing criteria. We update articles when rules change, and we date every update.
How we work
Our editorial process starts with primary sources: customs authorities, tax administrations, and official EU guidance. We then talk to sellers, freight forwarders, and tax specialists to understand how the rules play out in practice. Every article is reviewed by at least one person with hands-on cross-border experience. If we cannot verify a claim, we leave it out or mark it as uncertain.
We do not accept payment for coverage. Sponsored content is clearly labeled and kept separate from editorial. Our revenue comes from advertising and affiliate commissions on some tool links, which never influence our rankings or recommendations.
Our team
The editorial team includes former ecommerce operations managers, a customs broker, and a VAT specialist. We have all worked on the seller side and have dealt with the frustration of a held shipment or a surprise tax bill. That experience shapes what we write and how we write it: direct, specific, and free of jargon where possible.
We are based in the United States and write for a US audience, but our coverage includes the regulations that matter when you sell into the EU, UK, Canada, and Australia.
Our values
- Accuracy over speed. We would rather publish a day late than get a threshold wrong.
- Clarity over completeness. We aim to answer the question you have, not every question imaginable.
- Independence. No pay-for-play. No hidden agendas.
- Practicality. If a recommendation cannot be implemented by a small team, we say so.
Corrections policy
If we get something wrong, we correct it and note the change at the bottom of the article. You can reach us at corrections@crossborder-guide.com. We read every message.
Who we are not
We are not lawyers or accountants. Nothing we publish is legal or tax advice. For decisions about your specific situation, consult a qualified professional. We provide the context and the questions to ask, not a substitute for professional counsel.
